Look beyond your stories
Your imaginings
Your interpretations of events
Look beyond what you think they see
When they look at you
Look for something new
Carry your ghosts
behind enemy lines
And drop them there
Look beyond human shame and indignation
And limitations of birth and time
Look beyond what you think you see
When you look in the mirror
Look for something true
Look for questions, not answers
Reality is in the possibilities
Not in that which has already been named
Forget what you know
You are here now
Even if all the world is a step behind you
You have a right to see

We think we know more than we don’t! This reminds me of magic computer generated art. When you gaze beyond there is another picture concealed in the obvious.
Hi Colleen, Yes! I so often find the bigger picture is right there in the obvious. We need to learn to renew our gaze. Thanks for commenting and have a great day!
“Reality is in the possibilities.” Your poem is profound.
Thank you so much, Jade.
Reality is in the possibilities…and in the impossibilities. I like this poem
Welcome to dVerse and nice to meet you.
I specially like this part: Look for questions, not answers. Reality is in the possibilities.
Because of our paradigm it may be a challenge to look beyond our point of view. But if we can walk in someone else shoes, the perspective will do wonders to our world.
Perspective is everything. Thanks for reading and thanks for the welcome. I’m pleased to meet you and very happy to be here.
wise, and well penned ~
Much appreciated.
I like the idea of looking for questions not answers. It’s a good philosphy!
It usually serves me well. Thanks for reading!
I like the lines about dropping one’s ghosts behind enemy lines.
Thank you, Frank!
It’s hard to take off our preconceptions. But that’s the only way to truly see.
Indeed. Well said. Thanks for reading!
Looking and seeing are often two different things. It’s a bonus when they come together to reveal some truth.
Ah, moments of clarity. Thanks for reading, Kim!
“Carry your ghosts behind enemy lines and drop them there”…. what wonderfully descriptive and wise advice. Our image of ourselves is all too influenced by what we think others see. This is a very evocative piece.
Thank you, Beverly. I truly appreciate your thoughtful comment.
This is such an encouraging poem full of wisdom. A mantra to read and read again. The “carry your ghosts behind enemy lines and drop them there” lines really jumped out at me in the way that when a poem has a moment of surprise that makes me think, “dang, that is good, really good.”
Thank you so much, Jennifer. I really want my work to encourage, so it makes me happy that you found this in my words.
This is exactly what the enquiry of poetry is about. Peering deeper into the next room of the dream.
Thank you, Brendan. I really appreciate it. And I love your metaphor of the next room of the dream.
Thank you for sharing this for OLN H. Engaging read, and well written.
Thank you, Rob!
