Lodestar
I did not expect the brittle cry
Rising out from the mana
Voice breaking
Rheumy eyes discomposed
Lodestar
Shining with defiance
You are beckoning me to serve
Your consonant hoof-falls
Spreading their alchemy
Irrupting the gnosis with idyll wiles
I did not take the path of forgetting
I rose from the water astride your back
Never tossed in the tides of time
I glistened with moonlight
And showed you the scars I would accrue
My deep sea flesh waiting
For the universe within to round on us

Don’t we all need that defiant guiding star to beckon us to serve what we know is true! The image accompanying your poem is beautiful, too.
Yes, indeed. Thank you, Khaya!
Some calls are too hard to ignore, especially when they sing in the same key as our spirit does. I couldn’t bear to take the path of forgetting once I heard it too.
So true, Rommy! Thanks for stopping by.
I love “your consonant hoof-falls spreading their alchemy”…….and “I did not take the path of forgetting.” Me, neither. Beautiful, H.
I know that about you, dear Sherry. 😉
This is beautiful… the guiding star that take on the proportion of mythology when you rise from the water and ride…
I…wow. This just springs out from the first line and carries me along. It’s the kind of poem that one feels would spark excellent late night discussions.
A spellbinding kind of scene conjurs in my mind.
There is courage and defiance in this poem. Very inspiring and the imagery is perfect.
This is absolutely wonderful! I have had the idea of ‘lodestar’ percolating away for some years now – even, occasionally, putting pen to paper … but I have never been able to come close to capturing the power I find in the word itself. You have done that here … magnificently. I love this piece! THIS IS POETRY! I am – officially – in awe … humbly … in awe ~ smiles ~
At first I thought you might be talking about the sinister Kelpie, but this is a far more inspiring creature!
Love the word-play with ‘idyll’.
This is beautiful! Love the images it creates around that horse!
The “path of forgetting” tends to get us to our destination with broken teeth. I like teeth a lot. So, the way isn’t for me either *plants here feet wide and waits for the universe to make its move*.
