Still waters under starry night
The azure blackness
In broad strokes
Painting me into this one moment in time
I am cradled by the mother
Of every living thing
I am not made to be led
I revel in deepest Sargasso
I relish her salt in my veins
I am swept ever inward by her gyre
And drilled down to the core
Where I am no more
Every waking moment is an opportunity
Every breach in protocol is the sea
Begging off boundaries
Offering new life

Excellent piece.
I especially like the second stanza and the first half of the fourth.
Thank you, Shawna. I’m glad something resonated for you.
Awesome … dear poet ….
Thank you…dear poet!
every breach in protocol is the sea… oh that’s so wonderfully written!
Thank you, sincerely.
“I am cradled by the mother of every living thing……drilled down to the core where i am no more.” I love that. When i walk the beach, it is the closest i come to meditation, utter peacefulness and no-thought. So these lines really resonate. Beautiful.
The sea always does this for me. Nothing but the present in the presence of the mother of every living thing. I’m with you, Sherry.
I enjoyed the painterly quality of this poem and especially love the ‘azure blackness’, an expressive colour, and the lines:
‘I relish her salt in my veins
I am swept ever inward by her gyre’.
Thank you, Kim. I’m glad you were moved by the colours.
This was my favorite part as well! So evocative.
Thank you, Phillip!
I got swept along in this – stunning imagery
Thank you! I appreciate your reading.
Beautiful to think of every moment as being a new opportunity and the way the sea brings one to such wonderful reflections as these.
I am so in love with the sea. “I’m obsessed” as the kids say these days. Thank you, Mary.
I can hear the crash of waves on the rocks and feel the delight of being present in the ocean’s awe-inspiring vastness.
I love how poetry can transport us this way. Thanks for reading, Rommy!
Oh this is heart-stirring and beautifully rendered! I love “I relish her salt in my veins.”
This is vivid and celebratory. Mentally dancing on the sand. 🙂
The last stanza sings it song all the way into my bone. Every moment, every change, every bit of stillness… is, indeed, a chance. Love this.
Thank you for entertaining chance with me. 🙂
I love the ocean myself, and get near it a little too seldom these days. Thank you for evoking it in such striking language and imagery.
We share that love. Glad I could help conjur it up for you.
Wonder full opening stanza. It just seems to set up the entire poem with a lovely, lingering sigh of serenity.
Thank you, Wendy.
I love this. Beautiful poem!
Thank you, Ayala!
Beautiful and vivid imagery. I like how the speaker is swept ever inward by Sargasso’s gyre; there’s a kind of serenity found in that whirl.
