Still waters under starry night
The azure blackness
In broad strokes
Painting me into this one moment in time

I am cradled by the mother
Of every living thing
I am not made to be led
I revel in deepest Sargasso

I relish her salt in my veins
I am swept ever inward by her gyre
And drilled down to the core
Where I am no more

Every waking moment is an opportunity
Every breach in protocol is the sea
Begging off boundaries
Offering new life

“I am cradled by the mother of every living thing……drilled down to the core where i am no more.” I love that. When i walk the beach, it is the closest i come to meditation, utter peacefulness and no-thought. So these lines really resonate. Beautiful.

The sea always does this for me. Nothing but the present in the presence of the mother of every living thing. I’m with you, Sherry.

I enjoyed the painterly quality of this poem and especially love the ‘azure blackness’, an expressive colour, and the lines:
‘I relish her salt in my veins
I am swept ever inward by her gyre’.

Beautiful to think of every moment as being a new opportunity and the way the sea brings one to such wonderful reflections as these.

Beautiful and vivid imagery. I like how the speaker is swept ever inward by Sargasso’s gyre; there’s a kind of serenity found in that whirl.

Riders of the Tempest: The Story of WE
by H. Hennenburg

Riders of the Storm by H. Hennenburg ebook cover art
Cover painting by Autumn Chiu @ArtChiu

There is no “I”. There is no “you.” There is only WE. “Reality is in the possibilities,” and Riders of the Tempest is a quest for the heart of what can be.

This collection of poems by H. Hennenburg tells the story of WE. Born from Supernova, we bear the imprint of the universe: the mandate to expand. Gripped by a deep yearning, we march into a tempest…a great storm…a war between our desire to expand as individuals and our desire to expand into the truth of our oneness. We believe we are mere “echoes to the sea and gathering storm,” but there is more to the universe than what we see. We are “more than the caged experience of sight.” Endowed with an infinite stream of choices, what happens in our story if we reach for more?
